Earthquakes, Hurricanes and Beach Days

There was an earthquake yesterday in Virginia whose tremors made it all the way up the coast. Rich's building was evacuated in Newark, my sister was out on the street in Tribeca and I was at home shaking my fists at the moving earth threatening duels to the death if it woke my napping child and partly because I knew it's ultimate intention was to thwart my secret plans of surprising Rich at work and taking a trip to the beach-our first one in two years. Holy run-on sentence. You'll forgive me. It's just a blog. Anyway, unwilling to be deterred by natural disasters, I forged ahead anyway, threw caution of aftershocks to the wind and piled all four bags worth of towels, a picnic dinner, my camera, about 80 diapers and my child into the car. Needless to say, it was the best decision ever. My baby loves the ocean just like her Papa. We came home wet, sandy, full of melted Nagles ice cream and grinning ear to ear while we drifted off to sleep. Note to self: if ever you want to drive down the shore with no traffic, have the entire beach to yourself, not wait in line for ice cream and drive home in 40 minutes, go on the day of an earthquake and threats of a hurricane.
