Lets Just be Us
I drink apple cider vinegar in the morning after coffee.
I grow our own fruits and vegetables in a raised bed in our yard. ( Though, as it's been 1,000 degrees this summer already, it more resembles the secret garden in which you have to hunt for a raspberry or cherry tomato through the weeds I've been unable to tackle).
I will (if properly budgeted to do so) only buy organic products as the idea that someone or something other than God modified my food makes me queasy.
Monsanto takes the place of Voldemort in the "He who shall not be named" in our house.
White flour or sugar is pretty much just as harmful as all other white powders most people encourage their children to stay away from.
I simmer stocks on the stove for days until it's golden and rich and dry my own herbs to use.
I prefer dresses.
My entire family rarely ever has shoes on.
I gave birth to my child without any pain modification or assistance. ( Though, not for lack of trying. I wanted it. VERY, VERY much. )
I wore my kid as often as I could and breastfed her on demand until she was nearly 10 months old, and she weaned herself.
She still sleeps with us.
These things don't make me who I am, there are just some of the ways we've chosen to live. I also really love a spa pedicure, a glass of Sancerre and a decent night out. With heels. Italian leather, preferably. I've absolutely stopped at Wendy's to quell my kid's protest for a decent french fry and I most certainly would rather spend my day doing pretty much anything else other than cleaning my house or organizing furniture. I think we, Moms especially, are quick to judge one another based upon a few principles we maintain in our homes. I think it's mainly because we're so insecure on how others will view us- will they think less of us? Think we're being pretentious? Ridiculous? Irresponsible? Too strict? Not enough?
Lets not pigeon hole ourselves or the people we know into categories to which they don't belong just because they love the smell of patchouli or because they spend part of their grocery budget on a new nail polish color. Lets just be us, and glory in it!
