Ou allez-vous manger?
I know, I know. Two posts in one day. What? I know a few of you have asked me what we will be doing in Paris, and I've tried to be as cultured as possible when I answer. Oh, see the Louvre. Tour Notre Dame. Truth be told- I don't give a crap about any of that. I don't even want to climb the Eiffel Tower. I know. But, I don't. The thing I'm most excited about? The food.
So, I'm not going to lie anymore. You don't have to ask. I wouldn't regret never seeing Mona Lisa's face- not even once- if I could get a good baguette out of the deal. So, here are some of the places we've already made reservations. Wipe that drool off your keyboard.
Verjus is fairly new, and a seemingly odd choice as the owners are actually American, and not Parisienne. But, the northwestern couple quickly won over French foodies by hosting roving dinners at random apartments all over Paris- and you'd be in good company if you could get a reservation. They've finally settled down in a permanent location, and by the tenure of food critics, and the mounting line of of folks waiting for a table, I have a feeling Verjus will be one of those places we get to tell our grandchildren about. (You know, like hipsters and their music that they loved way before everyone else did. Except, this is actually cool.)
From new to old, in that Bistro Paul Bert has been hailed the place where french food is done, "right" for decades. I can't wait to find out if I agree.

David Lebovitz oozes love for chez-michel. Since I do the same for him, I figured it was worth a try.

There you go! Mind you, those are only a few, and only for dinner. You can plan on a full account of every crumb, endive leaf and crumble of cheese I consume. Promise.
